Player of Games, #87: Marvel Puzzle Quest

I was skeptical some years back when my brother suggested I try my hand at one of those insufferable match-the-jewels games on my phone. This was at a time when your social media feeds were inundated with requests to help your friends with their fucking Farmville games. Remember that? Shudder. Well, he assured me that this was not that sort of thing at all. So, I gave it a shot.

Here we are, almost nine years later, and I don't think I've missed a day playing Marvel Puzzle Quest. Most of the time it's just a quick login to get my daily bonuses and benefits, a couple of minutes helping Dr. Strange and Professor X knock down Kang or Ultron or whatever. But when I'm in a waiting room at the dentist, or at the airport? Then I might do comic-style battle for an hour at a time. It's an addictive exercise, recruiting and leveling up your favorite heroes and villains. I dare any true Marvel-phile to play it and not enjoy it.

Look, I get it. It's basically Candy Crush, right? Sure. But it has X-Men and Avengers and Dr. Doom and Thanos and hundreds more. All in the palm of your hand. For a convenient time-waster, it can't be beat.
